  • Kirk Housewright Team and Skills Coach

Coach Kirk Housewright was born in Dallas and has lived in The Colony since 1976.  He grew up in the city but spent most of his time playing football, fishing, and hunting as well as working on his uncle's cattle/beef ranch on the weekends. Coach Housewright played football through high school, but didn't pick up a basketball until his senior year. He scored the first touchdown for The Colony High when it opened in 1986 and held the pole vault record at 13'6" for a few years.  For several years after high school, Coach Housewright played in various men's and top gun basketball leagues as well as traveled to play in 3 on 3 tournaments throughout this region.

In 1998, Coach Housewright started coaching youth basketball and fell in love with the intricacies involved with coaching.  He enjoyed teaching young players how to become skilled athletes and really loved watching them catch on and then apply their skills to win basketball games.  According to The City of The Colony Athletic Director, Coach Housewright has coached and won more games than any other coach from The Colony.  He has coached over 700 games with the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation with several undefeated regular seasons.  He has coached most teams into Regional and State tournaments and had only 2 teams eliminated prior to the Regional tournament - usually only the top 2 or 3 teams from a city qualify.  Coach Housewright has also coached in 8 state final four appearances and has 2 state titles - 2013 (7th grade girls) and 2018 (6th/7th grade boys).  2018 was an undefeated season and had an average margin of victory of 41, with a group including 6 current or previous D1 Academy athletes.

From 2007 to 2017, with the help of 2 other coaches, Coach Housewright ran TCX, a basketball program for middle school and high school girls. All of the girls from all 4 teams made their school's A team in 7th and 8th grade and many of them were 4 year varsity players in high school, with a few still playing in college.  He also spent 3 years running a Pure Skills clinic through The Colony Recreation Center.

Coach Housewright is self-employed, owning a chain of furniture and mattress clearance centers in Texas. He spends his spare time working out, fishing, travelling. and coaching basketball. He also still plays in a 40+ basketball league at PSA.
