  • Shay Cooney-Williams Skills Coach

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Shay Cooney-Williams spent most of her time around basketball, playing when she was able, although, back then there were no 8 feet goals. Coach Shay moved to Texas at age 7 and was finally able to start playing recreationally and she’s been playing ever since. In middle school, she ran track, as well as played volleyball and basketball.  Coach Shay graduated from Frisco High School in 2009. During that time, she broke many records, made the 1500 point mark, was named MVP 3 times, and led her team to state in her first year there.

During recruiting, she dismissed all Texas schools, as she wanted to leave Texas. Coach Shay graduated from Pepperdine University in 2013. While there, she hit a game winner that was featured on ESPN's Top 10 Plays, making it to #1.

After college, she wanted to pursue an overseas career. Coach Shay was able to obtain opportunities in Puerto Rico with Santurce Cangrejeras, as well as in Australia with Brisbane Capitals.

Coach Shay sees herself as more of a player development coach. She likes to look at the details of a player and break down how to make their game better. She wants players to get the fundamentals down and then improve from that. With that being her focus, she stays positive and has patience when  coaching players. Being such a small player herself, she feels that the smaller you are, the bigger you have to play and the more heart you have to play with!
