Brian Loyd is a Partner and the Co-Founder of D1 Basketball DFW. Brian handles the Basketball Academy for D1 Basketball DFW.
Brian was born and raised in the state of Indiana, where basketball is king and every kid grows up with a basketball in his hand. A native of Indianapolis, he was a 3 sport star in basketball, football and track before concentrating on basketball. Brian first made his mark nationally by being named as an AAU 15U All-American after helping his Center Grove AAU team finish 3rd in the country at the AAU National Championships in South Bend, Indiana. From there his stock grew as a basketball player. Brian was named All-City and won the City Championship as a junior at Cathedral High School. As a senior he was named All-County and Honorable Mention All-State at Lawrence North High School. A National Top 150 player as a high school senior, Brian was recruited by schools all over the country before choosing The University of Tulsa over Davidson, Illinois State, USC and Wisconsin.
Brian had a great career as a shooting guard at Tulsa. He was a 4 year letterman. He was named Defensive Player of the Year as a Sophomore. He was named Team Captain as a senior. He set a school record for 3pt FGs made in a game (6 vs. Drake). A scholar athlete, Brian was also named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Team after finishing on the Dean's List at TU. Brian finished his career ranked near the top of several records at Tulsa - 3pt FG Made (Game), 3pt FG Made (Career), 3pt FG% (Career) and Games Played (Career). Brian graduated in 1991 with a double major in Communications and Sociology. He worked for Tulsa as an Admissions Counselor for two years before starting his career as a college basketball coach.
After coaching for 18 years on the college and pro levels, Brian brings a wealth of basketball coaching knowledge and connections to D1. He has worked with and developed players of all positions at the highest levels of basketball. He has coached in the NBA D-League and PAC-10. He has worked with such greats as Tubby Smith, Steve Lappas, Nancy Lieberman and Donnie Nelson. He continues to work with players on a private basis and has gotten several players college scholarships and pro contracts since moving to the DFW area in 2010. Brian has a serious passion for helping young men and women reach their full potential as players and it shows in his thorough and intense skills training and team coaching. Brian has one daughter, Lexi.
